Coaching philosophy
Blame
Keeping you focused on who put you here instead of what you're going to do about it.
Excuses
Fear dressed up as practicality. The reasons that feel legitimate but mostly aren't.
Denial
Refusing to see what's actually happening. Protective short-term. Catastrophically expensive long-term.
Justification
The sophisticated version. A well-constructed argument for why your situation is different. The hardest one to catch.
Before we work together, there's one thing you need to understand at a deep level — not intellectually, but honestly. It's called the BED principle. B is for Blame, E is for Excuses, D is for Denial. These are the three tools people reach for when they're not ready to take full ownership of their lives. Blame keeps you focused on who put you here instead of what you're going to do about it. Excuses dress fear up as practicality. Denial lets the problem grow quietly in the background while you look the other way. Most people use at least one of them, most of the time — and many use all three without realising it.
There's also a J — Justification — and it's the one that catches smart people out. It's the sophisticated version of the other three: a well-constructed argument for why your situation is different, why the rules don't apply, why what you're doing actually makes sense. It sounds reasonable. That's exactly why it's dangerous. If you want to work with me, you need to be willing to look at all four — BED and J — and be honest about which ones you're using. Not to beat yourself up, but because that honesty is the starting point for everything. Without it, coaching is just conversation.
From the blog
Motivation isn't the starting point — it's what follows action.
Most people are chasing someone else's version of a good life.
Knowing what to do and actually doing it are two very different things.
